CEO and President
Steve Kulmatycki, CEO and founder of Indigenous Management Solutions, has been working in Indigenous communities for over 25 years in a variety of management capacities. He started as a Grade 7-9 split classroom teacher in a small Indigenous community in Northern Alberta. Throughout his teaching career, he quickly accelerated from a Junior/Senior High Teacher to becoming the first School Superintendent for First Nation schools in Alberta. Within his education career, Mr. Kulmatycki developed a school structure unique to Indigenous students that resulted in a 97% Indigenous graduation rate, the highest Indigenous graduation rate in Alberta at that time. He was recognized for this accomplishment by the; Assembly of Federation Chiefs, Phil Fontaine; Prime Minister of Canada, Right Honorable Steven Harper; Honorable Premier, Ralph Kline; and other dignitaries.
While Mr. Kulmatycki has a passion for education, he moved his focus from education to assisting Indigenous communities in organizational management. Throughout this focus, he has been a CEO for several Tribal Council and assisted individual Indigenous communities with their Nation administration. In that capacity, he has been a co-manager, nation administrator and a senior advisor to Chiefs and Councils. In addition to managing Indigenous communities for success, his major accomplishments had been; the removal of a co-management arrangement between Indigenous Service Canada and a First Nation that existed for 18 years and for another First Nation, the establishment of an Elders Pension Plan through a $35M Impact Benefit Agreement with a Natural Resource Company.
Mr. Kulmatycki holds a Bachelor of Education Degree in Physical Education and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Executive Management and Finance. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling with his fiancée, camping, golf, curling, softball, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Kulmatycki also held the International Martial Arts Champion and Interim World Martial Arts Champion Title sanctioned by the World Martial Arts Council. He also volunteered as an Auxiliary Constable for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and several youth soccer leagues.
